Although everyone says Taiwan is a “ghost island” where the tech industry reigns supreme, at least, software engineering and AI happen to be exactly what I enjoy. I am very lucky.

It’s undeniable that the global trend is increasingly STEM-centric. But even so, I still deeply respect and continuously engage with knowledge from the humanities. History and philosophy have always been subjects I love. Recently, I even often listen to Dream of the Red Chamber as a background story before sleep.

I don’t want to become an engineer who only focuses on narrow technical knowledge. I aspire to continue interdisciplinary learning, understanding the world through Charlie Munger’s favored multi-model thinking, and also try to use the resources and abilities I gain in this field to influence those around me, and even bring about small changes in society.

To some extent, I also believe that the emergence of LLMs is lowering the barrier to interdisciplinary exploration.

If you come from a humanities background, or have ever felt you might be left behind by the wave of technology, I actually highly recommend you try starting a conversation with AI. Perhaps just by asking some questions or doing some small experiments, you might surprisingly find yourself developing an interest in engineering, technology, or data analysis. Of course, I’ll also continue to bother my LLM with a bunch of imaginative questions, such as existentialism or the history of Gdańsk.

Finally, if you’re somewhat interested but also overwhelmed by the current developments in AI, please quickly join the NTU AI Club (National Taiwan University AI Applications Club).

This year, we’ve designed a comprehensive AI technology roadmap, hoping to help more people understand AI applications, build foundational skills, and learn how to collaborate and learn with AI tools. With just a bit of practice and curiosity, you might find yourself already standing at the doorstep of the ML, LLM, or AI Agent world. It might even give you the chance to try out internships in ML, LLM, or AI agents 🦊😀 (Seriously, this is one of the goals of our courses.) (I will teach ten classes.)
