I just watched the second preview screening (4/16) of “Fly! Mountain Hawk-Eagle.” Thanks to the Raptor Research Group of Taiwan for providing students with admission, allowing me to get a sneak peek at this precious documentary. Now that I’ve just finished watching the film, I want to promote it a bit, trying to convince friends who might find documentaries boring XD. First, let’s talk about why we should care about raptors. Besides the superficial impressions of “eagles are cool, apex predators, TSG Hawks (a baseball team),” the presence of raptors also signifies that the current overall ecosystem is stable and safe. If you’ve studied junior high biology, you’d know that with each step up the food chain, energy decreases by about a tenth, so by the time it reaches raptors, perhaps only one-thousandth or less remains. If an environment can sustain raptors, allowing them to soar freely in the sky, it usually indicates that our current location is a place rich in energy and with balanced population development for various species. ...

While deeply researching a Main Conference paper published at ACL (a top conference in Computational Linguistics) recently, something both amusing and frustrating happened to me. To develop my new paper framework, I meticulously went through the paper’s open-source GitHub code and raw data distribution. As a result, I discovered a glaring, basic flaw that even the three original reviewers missed: this paper, which claims to evaluate “financial reasoning ability,” got even basic addition and subtraction wrong! The main issue was: “The total number of questions N claimed by the paper did not equal the sum of its listed components A + B.” Simply put, the authors confidently detailed the data sources in both the main text and the appendix, yet these two numbers, when added together, surprisingly did not match the total number they repeatedly emphasized in the abstract, main text, and figures. ...

I feel that Shen Po-yang’s public image was predominantly positive until early 2024, especially when he was invited to “Night Night Show” at the end of 2023 to introduce his expertise, and when he published his book “What If the CCP Attacks Us?”. Although everyone says Taiwan is a “ghost island” where the tech industry reigns supreme, at least, software engineering and AI happen to be exactly what I enjoy. I am very lucky. It’s undeniable that the global trend is increasingly STEM-centric. But even so, I still deeply respect and continuously engage with knowledge from the humanities. History and philosophy have always been subjects I love. Recently, I even often listen to Dream of the Red Chamber as a background story before sleep. ...

My thoughts today My pace of life has been a bit faster lately. I just received a call that brought about some emotional fluctuations. Even with all the imposter syndrome, I still have a faint but lasting sense of pride in myself. Even if it’s luck, I got to this point on my own (not through connections or favors). I really did it. Thank you to everyone who supported and disliked me along this journey. Sigh, truly, thank you, I’m suddenly a bit speechless. This all feels like a dream.
